Welcome to a deep dive into Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) - exploring its essence, evolution, and a powerful recommendation for where to make a meaningful impact.
In the world of CSR, we navigate the symbiotic relationship
between corporations and society, viewing it as a selfless act, a corporate
gesture of humanity.
Let's explore the 5W's of CSR at Marpu Foundation.

The Marpu Foundation, a non-profit organization, is a force for positive change in rural India. Focusing on healthcare, quality education, women's empowerment, and social welfare, it has touched the lives of over 1 crore beneficiaries.
2. What is Marpu Foundation.
"Marpu," meaning transformation, was founded by National Youth Awardee, Mr. Kadiri Raghu Vamsi. Awarded 'The Best NGO in India' in 2020, Marpu Foundation empowers individuals to voice aspirations, work towards sustainability, and create alliances for a shared vision. Join the mission to craft a more equitable and compassionate future.
The mission of Marpu Foundation is to harness individual potential for positive change through innovative, empathy-led projects promoting sustainability and social empowerment. The vision is to be a beacon of transformation, crafting a future that's equitable, compassionate, and sustainable through collective efforts and partnerships.
3. When Did CSR Begin?
Back in 1953, the term 'Corporate Social Responsibility' officially emerged in America. Fast forward to the Companies Act 2013 in India, where CSR activities became mandatory for companies with a substantial net worth. A minimum of 2% of average net profits from the preceding three financial years was mandated for CSR activities.
4. Where Can You Do CSR?
CSR activities can span Environmental, Philanthropic, Ethical, and Economic spheres. Investing in education, a fundamental sector, can bring lasting benefits. Enter Marpu Foundation, an NGO dedicated to providing education to underprivileged children.
4. Why Choose CSR at Marpu Foundation?
Marpu Foundation is dedicated to providing quality education to over 70,000 students in rural areas through 129 low-cost academies, to establish 1000 more. The foundation promotes inclusivity without discrimination based on caste, creed, region, religion, or social status.
Akal Academies, functioning as modern Gurukuls, extend education from LKG to Senior Secondary Level in underdeveloped regions. The Eternal University, under Marpu Foundation, empowers girls with a balanced education, covering a 400-acre area with advanced facilities.
Marpu Foundation focuses on holistic development, instilling universal moral values and spiritual principles through value-based education.
Beyond education, the foundation aims to build an egalitarian society. The Akal Charitable Hospital, operational in the Himalayan region, provides free medical care to over 39,000 underprivileged patients annually, including emergency interventions.
To address drug and alcohol abuse, The Kalgidhar Society operates the Akal De-Addiction cum Rehabilitation Centre, providing comprehensive addiction treatment with a focus on medical, psychological, and spiritual interventions. The center, located in Cheema Sahib, offers concessions to below poverty line individuals and relapse patients, ensuring the best possible care for lasting recovery.
